Good post, Brad. I know it was written a while back, but I just came across it. To me, a Christian entrepreneur is one who runs their business to bring honor to God. It may be in the way they deal with customers, what they do with their money, offering quality products, etc. Everything they do, they do to the best of their ability, as it says in Colossians 3:23, “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord aned not to men.”
In addition to his management roles, Phil had over 20 years’ experience advising companies on their company’s value, effect on value of different operating and financial strategies, such as sell, take public and/or joint venture options. He had consulted on corporate spinoffs, restructuring, and shareholder value implementation strategies. Phil has spoken and written on the economics of regional power planning, Global CapitalTrends-Effects of the U.S. Business Environment, Tax Strategies in M&A Transactions, Financing Leverage Buyouts, Capital for Financial Institutions, and Global Financial Instruments. Phil spoke at BusinessWeek’s 2003 CFO CIO Forum on the Implications of 2003 Tax legislation.
A successful entrepreneur serves others, often at great risk, difficulty, and cost. Profits are a sign that the entrepreneur has successfully served others, but the profits only come after the endeavor. Along the way the entrepreneur may risk income, financial safety for himself and his family, his retirement, his home, and possibly the same of friends and family.
The Kingdom of God is not of this world. It’s not one of the seven pillars. Religion is humanly established. It’s organized. It’s regulated. There are rituals or things that we manage from a human perspective, but God’s Kingdom, the Bible says, is within you. It’s invisible. It’s basically the rule and reign of Jesus. Wo everybody that says, “I follow Jesus” is part of the Kingdom of God.
The idea of a strict separation between sacred and secular is not a biblical one. Neither is the separation between “clergy” and “laity.” When you follow Jesus, you’re part of his kingdom in every realm of your life, so living out a Christian ethic and pursuing excellence and success in the marketplace by serving the needs of others and becoming generous is one way of positively impacting the world and drawing others to an understanding of God’s love for them. So let’s get past the stigma, break through our fears, and do this well!
This issue matters deeply to me, and it’s highly relevant, because God has put people in all kinds of positions of influence within society. In fact, he positions each and every one of us where we are to impact other people. He didn’t ask any of us to be an island unto ourselves, or to not have influence, or to not affect the world or the culture around us. I don’t believe he called us to isolate and withdraw and live life behind a wall and barricade ourselves off from the non-Christian world around us.

What if you could earn $100 a day (and even much more), from promoting this very website online (and others like it)? What if you knew exactly how it was that so many of the self-described “guru’s” made over $100,000 per year simply by affiliate marketing other people’s products? What if you had access to the same knowledge that other “upscale guru’s” are known to charge $2,000 for in “one-on-one coaching seminars”? Do you think there would be any prosperity, or benefits from the knowledge of that in starting your own Christian home business?

Companies like Sears, Amazon, eBay, Esprit Clothing Company, Cabela’s, and hundreds more pay you money to market their products for them online. Every sale you make for them, they compensate you… usually with commissions ranging from 10% to 25%. Those are companies you can represent as an affiliate, through your affiliate marketing campaigns and running a Christian home business.

A sincere born-again follower of Jesus Christ who has been called and gifted to express the love of Christ and the glory of God through entrepreneurial ventures recognizing that they are mere stewards of the accumulation of wealth derived from such ventures and entrusted to use this wealth according to God’s good and perfect will following the teachings set forth in the Bible.

What you’ve written is atrocious. It is not found in the Bible anywhere. Instead of trying to make Jesus/the Bible relevant to today, you might focus on Biblical Truths. Christ came, lived a perfect life, taught the disciples, was killed as a sacrifice for the SINS of us all, Rose from death to live eternally – and will return to judge all humanity – not based on any entrepreneurship or how well we lived, but by our belief in Him as our Savior.
Love it. We have been in Peru for almost 48 years, doing missions but more recently (last 15 years or so) doing business for missions, being self supported, greater circle of influence in community, and region. Some question what we are doing….other missionaries…..as we have this stigma around Christian circles as you mention that making money is evil…secular etc.
City Vision is nationally accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC), which is recognized by the US Department of Education and CHEA. The US Department of Education does not recognize a distinction between regional and national accreditation in its standards and recently stated, “The Department does not believe…that rejecting transfer credits, an application for admission to graduate school, or a request to sit for a State occupational licensing exam on the basis of the type of Department recognized accreditation is justified.”

This dedication to their faith and their clients has enabled them to gain over 2,000 customers without lifting a finger in the marketing realm.

God created work before the Fall. It is a good thing and is meant to provide fulfillment and as a means to glorify the Lord. So why do so many young people have a goal of avoiding work at all costs? Having a Biblical view of work is crucial for young people so they grow up to love hard work and the satisfaction that accompanies labor.  We have a passion to instill God’s perspective on work to the next generation!
Still, the owner, Doug Erickson, insists it is a religious company because, when it was failing and he thought about selling them off, he “gave it over to God” and now it makes money. “Erickson believes that his role as President and majority shareholder of the Dealerships is that of a steward of a business given to him by God and that his employees are God’s children who are entrusted to his care. He regards it as his religious duty to operate the Dealerships in conformity with his religious beliefs,” states the complaint. It also notes that he believes his company is a “marketplace ministry,” meaning he evangelizes to his employees and customers — a fact that I’m sure some of his customers would no doubt prefer to be made aware of before coming to shop.
